BEACHES AT AND AROUND SWANSEA
eaches
With Swansea Bay lining the south of the city, the beach is a convenient haven to get away from the noise, shops and general
city fuss. Gower Peninsula, the first reserve in Britain to be declared one of Natural Outstanding Beauty is just down the
road. Whether it's inflatable dinghies and ice creams, or isolated sand dunes you're after, Gower and the city area have 21
different bays on offer. Husband and Wife team Chris and Stella Elphick offer their guide to the best.
Swansea Bay
Swansea Bay stretches from the industrial docklands to the seaside village of Mumbles and the lighthouse. The sandy bay is
busy with joggers, dog walkers and on a low tide, fishermen digging for lugworm.

Caswell Beach
A "ten minute bus journey" from the city centre through the village of Mumbles. This beach gets very busy during the summer
months, with a couple of shops, a car park and toilet facilities.

Langland Bay
Close to the village of Mumbles and on a regular bus route from the city centre, this beach is another place that can get
very crowded during the summer months due to its accessability.

Oxwich Bay
An extensive sandy bay set amongst beautiful scenery. A car is needed to access this beach. Public transport is available
all year around with busier periods depending on the season.

Bracelet Bay
Between the Mumbles Lighthouse and "Coastguard Watching Post" lies Bracelet Bay. An extensive car park across the top of the
cliffs, makes this a spot for winter sea views tucked up in the warmth of the car.

Llangennith
A haven for surf addicts, Llangennith is also a popular place with holiday makers and campers. This extensive beach has beautiful
sunsets and is a perfect place to totally relax.

Three Cliffs Bay
One of the most spectacular beaches on the Gower Peninsula, Three Cliffs is also one of the least accessible. The walk down
to the beach is worth it - it's the climbing back up after a day soaking up the sun that proves to be difficult.

Whitford Sands
A beautiful isolated spot on the North of the Gower Peninsula, famous for its salt marshes, Whitford is the perfect destination
for those seeking seclusion, but it's difficult to get to and involves a long walk through the dunes of Whitford Burrows.
